Working directly with the book’s author, David Roberts, we advised on format, layout and design to ensure each of the 120-word tales were told as David saw them. This included selecting a typeface, which could represent each story no matter which decade it originated from.

We also applied our expertise in paper and print finishing techniques when it came to the book’s appearance and texture. We handpicked the paper stock and chose a sophisticated foil coated finish for the front cover – the icing on the cake to celebrate 120 years of the Birmingham Hippodrome.

The book included a forward from Sir Matthew Bourne and tales about performances by Charlie Chaplain, Stan Laurel, Houdini and of course, the local legend that is Lenny Henry.
