CBSO Season 18/19
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performs over 100 concerts each year in Birmingham and around the world, but their appearances aren’t limited to concert halls. They’re involved in every aspect of music-making across the West Midlands; from community programmes and family ensembles to educational workshops and events in care settings.
With such a diverse range of events, activity and audiences to capture and engage, we were asked to evolve an existing creative style and develop a new, flexible concept which incorporated iconography associated with the city of Birmingham.
Focussing on the insight that the organisation are prominent throughout the city, literally filling the streets with music, we developed an instrumentscape; a carefully curated selection of graphical images of Birmingham landmarks, musicians and instruments, which could be arranged in an infinite number of combinations.
We then applied this new look and feel consistently across a large and diverse range of media for their upcoming calendar of events; including brochures, posters and leaflets.
Much like the city and the music scene, the instrumentscape will shift and evolve over time, ensuring it remains a true reflection of an ever-changing city and the performance or event in focus.
